Duplicate Rx Detection

What happens when the same prescription number is used more than once.

What Is Duplicate Rx Detection?

When you log a dispense, C2 Vault checks whether the Rx (prescription) number has been used before. If it has, you will see a warning before you can submit.

Why This Happens

A duplicate Rx number does not always mean something is wrong. Common legitimate reasons include:

  • Multiple NDCs for one prescription — A single prescription may require dispensing more than one product (e.g., different strengths or package sizes).
  • Partial fills — The prescription is being filled in multiple parts over time.

What to Do

When you see a duplicate Rx warning:

  1. Review the previous dispense(s) that used the same Rx number (shown in the warning).
  2. If the duplicate is legitimate, check the confirmation box to acknowledge you are aware and proceed.
  3. If the duplicate is an error, correct the Rx number before saving.

Why This Matters

Duplicate Rx detection helps prevent accidental double-dispensing of controlled substances, which is a compliance concern. The acknowledgment checkbox ensures there is a record that the pharmacist reviewed the situation and confirmed it was intentional.
